50 YEARS OF MINISTRY

Over 50 years ago, Presbyterians in Nebraska began searching for a location to develop a camp and conference center to serve the youth and adults of Eastern Nebraska.  A special Camp Site Committee was appointed by the Synod of Nebraska to find a suitable property.  The original committee consisted of:

  • Rev. Thomas Huxtable (Chairman)
  • Rev. Keith Delap
  • Rev. John Swearingin
  • Rev. Donald Proett
  • Rev. Archie Marston
  • Mr. Lloyd Blair
  • Mr. Karl Loerch
  • Mr. James Moore

These individuals walked many acres of land before finding a suitable site.  Originally, 175 acres were purchased from the Herbert J. Jurgens family farm. 

Development of the site began and after 50 years, Calvin Crest is fulfilling Rev. Tom Huxtable's dream of becoming the "finest camp in Nebraska".





50th Anniversary Celebration

August 22-24, 2008

To celebrate Calvin Crest's Birthday, we are planning a special weekend.  To register for the weekend celebration, or to find out more, please download the brochure to the right. 

During the weekend, Calvin Crest 50th Anniversary Cookbooks will be sold.  Make sure you stop by and pick up your copy.   

Scheduled Activities

  • Friday Evening August 22-Counselor, Director and Camper Reunion--This is a great time to catch up with old friends and hear the memories and share the good times from throughout the history of Calvin Crest.  Enjoy a great campfire experience led by Dave Friedli and experience again the significant way that God can touch lives at Camp. 

 

  • Saturday August 23-Family Fun Day with activities for the whole family.  Join us for the entire day with activities for all ages.  Enjoy a wonderful Bar-B-Que Lunch and marvel at the wonderful talent of quilters in the area before bidding on your favorites at our 11th annual quilt auction.  All money raised goes to assist with special projects at Calvin Crest.  There will be plenty of entertainment and fun for the whole family. 

 

  • Sunday August 24-Worship at Calvin Crest.  Enjoy the grounds and celebrate God's faithfulness as we look ahead to the next 50 years of ministry at Calvin Crest.
